JANUARY 18TH FROM 11AM TO 6PM
BEATCAVE is a new interactive learning experience for producers and engineers in Toronto. We host workshops and events every month bringing in sound designers, expert engineers, music managers, multi-platinum producers, and other business moguls in this industry. We strive to provide each participant with enough information to help their career flourish.
It's a new year and we have a new format we are rolling out for our 7th installment of BEATCAVE.
On January 18th we will be improving and expanding the way we educate and inform our participants. There will be 6 rooms that will have topics such as : beat deconstruction, instagram marketing, beat mixing, beat critique, lawyer talk, and sound design. Our community has grown immensely within a short period of time and we don't want that to take away from our learning experience. We've realized that by creating a more intimate settings for our participants, they can really network and develop their skills together.
We will break the participants up into groups of 8 to 12 people. After that they will be placed in one of the 6 rooms to hear that specific speaker. Here are the topics that each room will be covering :
Lawyer Talk with Matthew S. Mohamed
Entertainment Law is about protecting the rights attributed to the intellectual property of musicians, both in the short term and with an eye to the future. That is the foundation of Entertainment Law Practice.
Matthew is the Founder of MSM Legal Group Professional Corporation. He practices in the areas of Real Estate, Corporate and Entertainment Law. Matthew graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Economics. He then completed his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy. Following that, he successfully completed his NCA exams and Bar exams before getting called to the Ontario Bar.
Matthew will help participants understand concepts such as : producer agreements, licensing agreements, distribution agreements, publishing and recording agreements, back end set up, advice on building an effective team and publishing splits and royalties.
Matthew has done work with many artists in the city including Smiley.
Beat Critique with Alexander Tribe
The beat critique will be smaller and intimate to allow for more feedback. This will be a brutally honest talk that will help you understand your sound selection and ideas. Going in depth with the why behind your beat, can help you move forward with a fresh perspective.
Beat Mixing with North English
North English is a DJ and Audio Engineer currently based in Toronto. Curiosity and energy are the driving forces behind his creativity and he has worked with numerous & various amounts of brands, companies & content producers. North graduated from The Remix Project in 2017 and has worked with the likes of Tory Lanez, Sean Leon, Yung Tory and many more in different capacities. Some of the most promising and upcoming sound smiths in their respective fields work with North often. As a former Studio Coordinator and Engagment worker at the S.P.O.T. Art & Technology Centre for youth, he is heavily influenced by Pharrell Williams and his pursuit to find new sounds and keep pushing minds and culture forward.
The participants will get to sit down with an North English to learn more about mixing beats. Creating a dope melody, adding drums, and inserting snares isn't enough. Learning how to mix your beats will help your beats sound better.
Beat Deconstruction with K-Notes
K-Notes has clocked production credits for a number of international artists including Justine Skye, Vory, Jim Jones and Crooked-I, as well as a slew of Canadian talent including Notifi, K. Forest, Tre Mission, Saya and more. He’s also part of the live band for Toronto’s anders, and has also opened for artists ranging from Movado to Young Jeezy with his former production team/band The Aficionados.
In addition to focusing on his own production, developing new artists and landing major label placements, K-Notes is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of producers and artists. Earlier this year he ran a specialized outreach program alongside producer Eestbound; “In Studio Collective” was a 16-week program geared at teaching Toronto youth about the world of production and engineering.
he will be breaking down a session he produced for a major artist. He will be showing you how he put the beat together like a "Genius" Beat Deconstruction video. Afterwards, you can ask questions regarding his plugins and vsts of choice.
Modern Marketing : Instagram with Social Media Guru - Cory Lee
Understanding how to use Instagram can help you reach the right people, and get your message across. We've come a long way with digital marketing and it's important to know how you can be ahead of the curve. We will have Cory Lee help you strategize a plan to build your audience. The participants will get to ask questions that can personally help them with their plan, regardless of their goal.
Vocal Mixing Room with MIKE GONEK
MIKE GONEK SPECIALIZES IN RAP, POP, & DANCE, AS WELL AS TV/FILM & AD COMPOSITION. HE’S WORKED WITH HEAVY HITTERS DIPLO, SKRILLEX, AND MURDA BEATZ. HIS RECORDS HAVE BEEN CUT BY: DUA LIPA, CHRIS BROWN, USHER, PARTY NEXT DOOR, KENT JONES, TORY LANEZ, JEREMIH, AND BIG SEAN. HIS RECENT PRODUCTION ON CHRIS BROWN’S #1 ALBUM “INDIGO” EARNED HIM HIS FIRST GOLD RECORD.
Mike will be going over how to mix vocals over a beat while the participants will have the opportunity to take some vocals and apply it over a beat they have made.
Beat Making Room with 1/2 of Tone Mason
Tone Mason is a 2x Grammy-nominated, Juno award winning production duo, hailing from Toronto, Canada. Comprised of Mellenius & Don D, Tone Mason Music speaks to a deep-rooted dedication to craftsmanship, quality and originality. With over 15 years of experience in the music industry.
Tone Mason's production skills have played important roles in major label-recording artists such as Drake, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Common, The Game, 50 Cent, Fantasia, Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, AZ, Shad and to name a few.
In addition to working with some of the finest artists in the game, Tone Mason has contributed an eclectic brand of music to a wide range of companies and media projects such as MuchMusic & MuchVibe, The Score, Barbershop 3: The Next Cut Soundtrack &
Film, BET, EA Sports, Streets Of Compton A&E Documentary Soundtrack, Russell Peters' Red, White and Brown DVD & documentary and many more.
Participants will be in a room creating beats together or solo and have the audio expert teach and show the new techniques. The participants will recieve a sample to use and create a beat.
We've changed our format to allow everyone to get more education in smaller groups. Hearing knowledge from experts in an intimate setting can increase the amount of information you retain.
